Welcome to my webpage! I am Dr. LI Bin, Associate Professor at Department of Linguistics and Translation, City University of Hong Kong. I received my Ph.D. in Linguistics, specializing in Phonetics, from University of Florida (supervisor: Dr. Ratree Wayland). My main research interests are phonetics and second language acquisition, focusing on how people perceive speech sounds in their L1 and/or L2, and on how laboratory training affects speech acquisition and the implications to pronunciation pedagogy click here to read updates of pedagogical development. I am also interested in studying speaking under various emotional and physical settings, and phonetic approaches to speech pathologies and forensic voice analysis. My teaching experience is more diverse. I have taught at both undergraduate and graduate-levels, linguistics and translation courses include introduction to linguistics, second language acquisition, TESOL, sociolinguistics, and translation methodology. I am keen on promoting linguistics in general education and among younger learners. I am open-minded to experimenting innovative methods and collaborative approaches to enhance teaching and learning. © Click to browse a beta version of our interactive map of Hong Kong’s linguistic landscape (ongoing based on teaching development projects and students’ field trips in participating courses). © Click to check out a series of interactive videos (completed based on UGC T&L project; offering key information and tips for learning and life at CityU; producer and cast were CityU students and alumni).
