Dr Lun 14 November 2016

Dear fresh graduates of LT,

Invitation to participate at LT Graduation Dinner 2016 November 25

Congratulations to you, alumni of LT for your hard work in the past years. I wish you all well in starting your career. This year we will see you in the graduation ceremony on the 26th of November. Kenneth, Richard and I would like to organize the LT Graduation Dinner 2016 on November 25 (Friday) since the graduation day may best be shared with your family. This event was organized for the first time last year and we had a very good turn-out rate. We got 5 tables then. It aims at celebrating the graduation of our fresh graduates (BALLT, BATI and MALS of the class 2016, and Ph. D. holders). We also want to invite all teachers to share your joyous graduation.

We treasure the time we had the honor to spend together with you, and we will like to build up a life-long relationship with you after your graduation. We want you to share your time with us that evening, if not in other LT seminars and Alumni Association activities. Let us establish another good and long-lasting tradition for all of us.

Life is a long journey and we as teachers are proud to stay by your side during your years of growth, both mentally and academically. Now, your willingness to come back to LT will be a good sign that we will keep you company and you ours in the long march yet to be accomplished. We welcome you all and we are looking forward to seeing many of you soon!

Dear alumni,

The College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences would like to know if the alumni of our Departments have received any awards in the past two years (i.e. between 2014 and 2015). Such information will be useful for the College Editorial Board to prepare an alumni series in the College Magazine in order to praise our alumni for their achievements, and also our department for its teaching excellence.

If you have any award to report, could you please get back to ctsso@cityu.edu.hk by 28 Dec 2015 with the full English name, ex-student ID number, and the name of the award(s) received.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Mr. Steven So (x7593) for details.

Thank you very much and wish you a Merry Christmas!

Grad Dinner 2015

Dear fresh graduates and other AL, CTL alumni, Grad Dinner 2015

Invitation to participate at LT Graduation Dinner and Alumni Reunion 2015

It is my pleasure to announce a new initiative in the Department of Linguistics and Translation (also formerly known by you as Dept. of Languages, Dept. of Applied Linguistics, Dept. of Chinese, Translation & Linguistics depending on your years with us), LT Graduation Dinner and Alumni Reunion 2015. This event aims at celebrating the graduation of our fresh graduates (BAL, BATI and MALS of the class 2015, and Ph. D. holders). We also want to invite all our alumni that are available that evening to come for reunion with us, the teachers, and your new associates.

LT is a big family. Our alumni work in all different fields in society, here and out of Hong Kong. We treasure the time we had the honor to spend together with you, and we will like to build up a life-long friendship and sense of belonging with you after graduation. We want you to share your time with us at least once a year, if not in other LT and Alumni Association activities. Let us establish another good and long-lasting tradition for all of us. Kenneth and I were inspired by the attendance rate of the 30th Anniversary Home-return reunion on 30 November 2014 where we had more than 80 people. Dr Li 15 September 2015

Dear alumni friends,

Not long ago, we gathered together with some of you to celebrate CityU’s 30th anniversary.

Flourishing in various fields, you have proven excellent evidence to the development of our department (now renamed as Department of Linguistics and Translation, LT < CTL) and inspiration to current students. For our current students and future students, we are now calling for your help with promoting our internship programme. I hope we can reply on your support as always for fruitful internship experience for our LT students.

Our department has been striving to secure partnership with local and international companies and organizations to provide our students with diverse opportunities in the summer semester to gain real life working experience. Currently we have established partnership with more than 30 companies and NGOs in Hong Kong, the Mainland, and Taiwan. We intend to secure more internship partnership so that more LT students can benefit from knowledge application in workplaces. So, we are now calling for your support to recommend potential internship partners.

If you are confident or see the possibility that LT students would fit as interns in your company/organization, please help us submit an intent of collaboration to your company/organization, and we will follow up afterwards.

If you wish to get more information on the internship programme, you may visit our official website at http://internship.lt.cityu.edu.hk, and also our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/LTintern.CityU. You may also contact us by calling 34426546 (Ms. Joey Wong), or 34426267 (Dr. LI Bin).

CityU LT Alumni Reunion Luncheon

Dr Lun Kenneth Au 11 December 2014

On the 30th of November, 2014, Department of Linguistics and Translation hosted an Alumni Reunion Luncheon at City Top and 87 alumni and professors participated. The food was great and the atmosphere was even greater, with Andy Wong (BAAL) and Christine Leung as MC’s. Special thanks are also due to Christine Leung (BALS), Mandy Cheung (BATI) and other alumni, in appreciation of their meticulous preparatory efforts on-site and before. Joshua Tsui (BALS), Leo Cheung (BACHM), and Tin Wong (BATI) recorded these memorable moments with their photographic skills. Prof. Hon Chan, Acting Head and Dr. Peppina Lee, Assistant Head also joined the event. So did our cherished Mr. Tom Lai who has just started to enjoy his retirement.

After the first round of food, a slide show of historic photos brought back many sweet memories to us: from the transformation of City Polytechnic into CityUHK, to the different phases of development of our department. There were table prizes and free gifts donated by the Alumni’s Office and the alumni enjoyed around 2 hours of happy reunion together. The bondage of the department was never stronger among the graduates. In future, hopefully, our strong ties with the alumni will help us in getting more valuable career talks and internship places for our present students.
